Mouth sores during chemoViews: 276

I’m a new member so please forgive me for any advice that’s already been mentioned. When I underwent chemo, the nurse advised me to suck on Sonic ice while the cytoxin was being infused. I never had mouth sores. Now I don’t really know if the ice really prevented them, but it’s sure worth a try!

I dont have teh personal experiance, but I do know what I was told to tell pts when I was a nurse in the hospital. Good oral care daily, rinse and spit with a nonalcohol mouth wash mixed with mineral oil. It is all over the counter, there is a viscous xylocaine that can be mixed in this as well but that requires measurement and perscription. That is what I was told by the more experianced nurses when I would work as a temp on the oncology floor (who new). I would not blame the Sonic ice. But I would take over what I know I can control adn that is the promotion of healing on the mouth sores and enhance my foods high in vitamin a and C if you can. Again, I could be wrong it is simply what I would do based on what I learned years ago.
Peace
